Priest is a movie that is adapted from the original comic book with the same name. The story revolves around a few veteran priests, these priest live around normal human inhabitants in the dystopian city, the city is ruled by church. One day the priest get news about hes niece who was kidnapped by vampires, the priest then breaks the voves that he has made to the church in order to find her again.

The sad thing is that Priest is failing to provide any interesting characters, neither is it good at providing any good story, i was hoping that the producers where to deliver a holy hell of good action and sweet violence. I believe that the animation in the beginning of the movie where showing more blood then the film did. The fights are quite good since they are very well choreographed but in the end they are just stylish and mostly on the border of illogical. Still, even if the movie fails on those parts there are some salvation in priest because of great production design. Great details have been put in the city, as well as the wastelands. The one thing i remember the most is tech that is used during the movie, you will get to se futuristic motorcycles, pimped out shotguns as well as the deadly silver-themed blade weapons at the priests disposal.

The movies tries to put in some deeper subtexts. You could look on the priests as War veterans that got rejected by society and now have trouble to re-integrate, this theme was very popular with “Rambo: First Blood”. The movie also makes fun of the church and how they try to control everything with their religion and their faith to remain saved from evil as long as they worship God. It is not “anti-catholic” or “anti-Christian” by by intention, it is instead a satire that will still make several conservatives cry sacrilege.

Paul Bettany Who is playing the priest looks like he is having a good time when playing the apocalyptic messiah-like character, i cant help to think about he earlier film Angel and compare them both to asset his effort in this movie. Hes enemies looks like they are throwaways that never made it into the Alien franchise because they would not offer any real challenge against a man who has Christ at his disposal. He has Plenty of silver weaponry at his disposal together with moments of prayer to calm nerves. Great visual effects along with some very good CGI.

Priest is not a perfect movie, it could have used some more humor into it’s story like that that was so simple. I am wondering what exactly the comic is like, since apparently the makers of this movie merely lifted the title and a few surface details. I’m all for Western being incorporated into fantasy and science fiction ideas, but this was done poorly.

The Marvel Studio is certainly on a hot streak now releasing superhero movies for their upcoming The Avengers movies, and Captain America was the last story to be told before this. Seeing that Thor came out earlier in the year to good reviews and a healthy box-office considering he is a lesser known hero and Captain America has done even better with critics and a stronger opening. Added to that Fox’s reboot of X-Men was able to get that series right after the mess Brett Ratner left it in.

Captain America start of in 1942 with Steve Rogers who is played by Chris Evans. Steve is a skinny boy with several health problems, still he wants to join the American Army. Steve have tried several times to enlist but due to hes bad health he is shut down several times. When Steve once more decides to try to get enlisted a scientist by the name of Abraham Erskine comes to se how determined he is to join and will pull some strings to get him in the army, and from here on the story of Captain America will unfold.

I would say that Captain America is at best interesting in the first part when Steve Roger is going trough hes training in the military to find his purpose. During those scenes you will get to se some well written humor which is highly entertaining.

The second part of the movie was just plain boring for me. Do not get me wrong, the action was not bad, but when i se all these futuristic sets and high technology weaponry it becomes dull really fast. As the movies was supposed to take place during World War II i was hoping to se at least ONE historically accurate weapon, gun or heck even a building that looks accurate for the time, i did not get to se this and believe that the World War II scenario was totally wasted.

While im talking about buildings and so on i must say that i was entirely annoyed by the sets. The ones that have Captain America in them are just fine, but if you look ad the sets for Hydra they once again look entirely futuristic with nothing more then annoying silver color. Again, What is the point of it being in World War II if you remove anything that remotely reassemble anything from that timeline.

Seeing Captain America fight made med facepalm as well. The movie will portray him as being really powerfull, but you will never get to se him being unstoppable. His shield will never kill anyone, if i remember my comic right hes shield is supposed to cut through people. Violence is something that they keep to a very minimum in this movies.

I was hoping i could say something good about he visuals and the special effects, however, my feelings are quite mixed. I was hoping it could have a but more photo-realistic feel to it but instead we got a little to much like
“the World of Tomorrow and Sky Captain”. That said, the use of wide lenses did helped them out and made the feeling more realistic due to the massive amounts of CGI.

In the end it is determined by your familiarity with Captain America and the Marvel universe whether you will like this movie or not so much or not at all. If you are a fan, I believe you’ll at least enjoy it, otherwise not so likely.

I was very excited when I heard that Thor was coming out with a movie adaptation, since Thor has been my favourite superhero for many years. I was expecting a decent superhero along with those of 2008′s Incredible Hulk, but what I did not expect was this movie to easily become my superhero movie to

If you where to compare Thor to other characters in the Marvel Universe he will feel quite out of place next to other superheros like Spiderman, X-men and so on. Fans have still been intressted in the story since the 1960′s.

I would say that the story of Thor is doing a great job when it comes to laying down a foundation for the Norse Mythology with Loki, Frost Giants the Casket of Winter and so on. However, i did not like how they made Thor into this little spoiled brat, it was quite over the top in my opinion. I did like how they included a great story for Loki aswell. Instead of being the prime evil, Loki just wanted to ruin Thor’s day.

What i found intressting is that the story takes quite some time to build up as the viewer are presentet with three realms that is Asgard, Earth and Jotunheim wich is the place where the Frost Giants live. The settings in each of these three realms play an important role in the story as the viewer get the chance to visualize these mythical worlds, the only one where you cant to that is Earth because we already know how ordinary it is, still Earth manages to be the one realm that will provide the most hilarious situations, and a romantic subplot involving Natalie Portman, who plays Jane Foster.

If you look at Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor, hes is quite a charismatic actor who is quite a new face in hollywood, he embodies the character of Thor exceptionally. You will se how Chris will display a comedic side while he also do a superb job in the more dramatic and serious moments of the movie.

Branagh also proves that hes is the master when it comes to great movies. Wha. If you overlook some of the more dodgy moments, the visual effects are stunning. If you look at Asgard it is just an incredible movie landscape, my eyes were stretched to breaking point trying to take in all the details of this new and exciting world. There are some things that look fake right of the bat, but it is forgivable based on how spectacular the majority of the visuals are. Credit must go to the FX and art direction departments.

did i have any Problems? Well, where was just one thing. The Odinsleep, they took not time to explain what this was, if you have not read the comic or know what this is one will be quite puzzled by this, especilly as this was the reason Loki had the chance to become King wich caused the plot in the first place.

In conclusion, This is one of the movies that lead up to it, “The Avengers” better be pretty darn good. It doesn’t have the same director and that makes me concerned because this guy did such a good job. I am looking forward to seeing where this adaption takes the characters though.

all in all, Thor is a fine piece of entertainment. Whether you are a fan of the character, like superhero movies, or you just want to be prepared for the Avengers that is coming in 2012, you should check this out.

I came into this movie with no expectations at all. The only thing i thought was that a movie with the name “Cowboys and Aliens” should not be boring, hopefully Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde could at least make it entertaining. In the end i just got reminded of movies like “Terminator Salvation”, i got some nice eye candy with some really great special effects, but just like “Terminator Salvation” or “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, there are quite lot of things happening at the same time, but not something that keeps you entertained.

When Cowboys & Aliens start you will meet Jake Lonegan who is played by Daniel Craig. Jake wakes up in the desert with a bracelet on his arm. Jake do not remember how he got the bracelet, he don’t even remember who he is or where he have been. Jake goes to a nearby town where he will make some dodging mishaps and in the end is corned by Elle who is played by Olivia Wilde Woodrow Dolarhyde who is played by Harrison Ford. Soon after this there is an alien invasion which takes the town people away, from here on the story takes of as Jake must team up with Dolarhyde to get their people back and discover who he really is.

The story for the movie was decent with the conflict between the cowboys and the aliens, but i do no feel that it was as strong as it could have been. The few emotional scenes we had was quite weak, i did not get any emotion out of them at all. You will get to se a romance between to character develope, but for certain reasons it will not persist.

If we take a look at the actor i believe that Olivia Wilde stood out the most as she really came into hes character with amazing quality. In the start she was looking like a background character creeping in the shadows, but as the movie went on she became more and more one of the main characters as we got to know more and more about her.

Daniel Craig also pulled of hes role really great, i would believe that he is well-versed with it by now, given the roles that have made him famous, he was good but not overly engaging as he kept the viewer at bay for the most of the film, hes dialogues are very few and short, almost as short as Dolarhydes temper.

Harrison Ford gave us a snippy, grumpy, gruff sort of character, which the viewer at certain points can easily make the distinction between simply reading a line versus playing a part naturally and convincingly. Then again, it’s difficult to blame him for his vile temper.

In the end this is not a bad movie, but i was not satisfied with what it could have been. I liked the casting and the filmmakers, bit i just ended up asking “what happened?”.

When i first saw the news for this firm i had with little or no hope at all for it. By the time i actully saw it and movie was over, with the Beatles’ “Baby, You’re A Rich Man” playing over the end credits, I had a smile on my face.

Many do think that this movies is about Facebook, however is not about Facebook. It’s about Mark Zuckerberg and the people associated with him and the consequences that arise with the evolution of Facebook. In an even broader sense, it’s about friends being driven apart due to money and betrayal. I think what makes this movie so good is the masterfully written script by Aaron Sorkin. The film is filled with impeccable dialog that just sucks you in. It would be no surprise if the film won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

I really can’t rave enough about how much I love the script and dialogue. They do their sparring and fighting not with swords but with words. It is like watching verbal jazz play out on the screen. If you are the type of person who do not like to much talking in a movie then you may want to stay way from this movie.

If i look back on The Social Network I feel that it could have done much better as a miniseries on television. That is the sort of feeling it generates. There just is not the firm, glue-applied narrative structure that typically builds the foundation for a movie. I must also confess that I only really cared for the characters because the strong performances that was thrown on them. In addition, the screenplay is a little jumbled, at times making it hard to determine at what point in time we are now setting ourselves. It flashes back and forth too quickly and a straight storyline would have been better.

On another note Jesse Eisenberg do a remarkable performance as Mark Zuckerberg. There is also a wonderful scene where then President of Harvard Larry Summers is unbelievably arrogant and predicts that Facebook will never amount to anything, based on his opinion as a former Secretary of the Treasury. I didn’t really buy Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker, the founder of Napster. I have never meet Sean Parker, but what can be read about him he is supposed to be a hacker/programmer. Although he eventually started to date models, snort coke and hang out in nightclubs, I don’t think that someone like Justin Timberlake has the type of presence that a hacker would have. Nerds and musicians definitely inhabit their bodies in different ways. I’ve never seen the character Justin was playing, so I could be wrong.

The Social Network is not in my opinion, one of the best movies of the year, but is still a movie very much worth seeing. I have no doubt that this movie will be be on the ballot lists for the Academy Awards next year and that its many overlooked talents will finally get the recognition they deserve

I have put of this movie for far to long. Last night it finally watched it and i have never read the book, so i cannot compare it to the film and guess il get some comments on this. Dorian Gray(the movie) was created by the British company Ealing Studios who seem to specialise in Wilde adaptations

The story was really enjoyable. A young man who trades his soul to the devil in exchange for eternal youth and beauty, after seeing an incredibly lifelike portrait of himself. This does not seem entirely unrealistic in todays cult obsessed celebrity youth, and in fact most of the film did stick to the realms of reality. Set against a beautiful Victorian style backdrop of London, the film managed to mirror life through a visually delightful time period that managed to modernise itself in its content, and maintained a nice contrast between light and dark throughout.

I belive that Henry is not only a father-figure to Dorian, but he is also his corrupter, under whose malign influence Dorian’s character deteriorates until he is even more monstrous than Henry himself. What partially saves Henry is, paradoxically, his hypocrisy, something normally regarded as a vice. Henry might preach about the advantages of a totally hedonistic lifestyle, but he is never quite prepared to practise what he preaches. Dorian is fully prepared to follow henrys teachings in full and allow unbridled freedom to his appetites. The changes in the portrait will not simply reflect Dorian’s age but also the state of his soul.

Colin Firth is very good, his character is subtle and credible. Ben Barnes playing Dorian does his best, but he has too an puppy-face, a more mature and experienced young man would have been more suitable. Female performances are quite insignificant, at least very much non developing throughout the story. They are not given space enough to make an impression at al.

For me the message of the Dorian Gray is that pleasure corrupts and that absolute pleasure corrupts absolutely; if one makes pleasure one’s sole aim in life, one runs the danger of becoming thoroughly selfish and immoral.

For me that have not read the book Dorian Gray was fabulous that provokes thought into our own lifestyle and the pressures we put on appearance, as well as a visual description of the price of eternal beauty on the soul. I would definitely recommend this film.

And a last question for you all out there. Now that i have seen the movie, should i read the book?

As i today choose movie my finger landed upon Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. After watching the prequel i was not having my hopes up for this one, however. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen takes it’s prequel and kicks it in the ass.

The story itself is tighter this time and that’s a good thing. We see very clearly what’s going on on each side of the conflict, with the robots getting a lot of solo screen time. It also relies more heavily on Transformer lore, which should please some fans. I know I was pleased by it. The story wraps up nicely. It does leave an opening for a sequel, but on the same level as Strarscream’s short flying away scene in the first film. It’s just to let us know the war isn’t over. But the story for this film gets it’s ending, so we’re not left with a cliffhanger.

I also think there is to much comic relief that undermines the dramatic impact of director Michael Bay’s visually impressive sequel “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” If you skipped the original “Transformers,” you may not understand the stakes in the sequel or the situation. The original concluded with the treacherous Decepticon jet Transformer streaking off into the sky, guaranteeing the survival of the villains. Original “Transformer” scenarists Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are joined on this installment by “Reindeer Games” writer Ehren Kruger and they bring back the evil Decepticons for a rematch with the virtuous Autobots.

Revenge of the fallen made me even more happy with the story because it brings in the Primus/Unicron/TheOne mythology into the movie. Now they do have some points that are inaccurate ofcourse, but nothing is perfect. They bring back in (and this is not a spoiler, this is common knowledge to the Marvel Comics Lore set over 24 years ago) the Matrix, the seven Primes, the Fallen, and the constructions. Oh and of course as you may have heard the real deal, Soundwave. This was more then enough to make me happy.

Another thing i have noticed is that there is to many people’s concern that there are too many human stories in the films, and the transformers come second. That is true, but also necessary, and the film is better for it. Watching these huge robots fighting to protect the humans is what makes them so lovable. The story would not be as good without people. The robots are there as guardians, their presence is majestic. If the entire movie would be only with them it would take a huge chunk away from their charm. In short, the movies work best this way, and it’s a good thing that Bay knows this.

Now im going over to someting everyone has already mentioned. Skids and Mudflap. They weren’t as bad as Jar Jar. No character could be. Sure the movie would have been better without them, but as I recall in the cartoon the humans would mostly hang around the smaller Autobots and at least the twins ones were given a bit of personality (annoying as they were…)

But now let’s again go to someting else, like CGI. The GGI was stunning. Michael Bay and his crew have really taken CGI and other visual effects to the next level.. The fact that Ironhide’s gun has 10,000 moving parts alone done with a computer is amazing. Just think of how many moving parts they made for every different car and machine. They try to make as much of it as real as they can get. I found out that they actually jack knifed an 18 wheeler with someone driving it at high speeds and then added the robot smashing though the side of it. Thats makes it more real to the audience and makes a better movie in my opinion.

Picking off where the first Iron Man ended, Tony Stark has just revealed to the world his identity as Iron Man. Now he reaps the whirlwind consequences of his actions as both the military and unscrupulous competitor Justin Hammer vie to obtain the secrets of Stark’s Iron Man technology for their own gain. Too add to the flames, Stark soon discovers that the very technology that is keeping his heart alive is also poisoning him. As he tries to salvage a life that is slowly falling to pieces and his growing feelings for his long time assistant Pepper Potts(Gwyneth Paltrow), Starks has to contend to with a foreign weapons genius named Ivan Vanko who seems to bear a deep seated grudge against the ailing billionaire; a grudge that stemmed from the legacy of Tony’s father, Howard Stark.

Iron Man 2 is also very much Iron Man’s superior, although partly by default. The first movie was stuck with a pedantic origin story. However, the sequel had no shortage of possible paths to take. Which did it choose? The way you should always go; the road of characterization. Rather than tediously expand upon its universe, Iron Man 2 simply reprises its dramatis personae and sticks them into situations graver than before, upping the ante but reiterating the overall heart and spirit of its predecessor. The characters are well-etched, each snappy exchange rendered with a mature pathos that contrasts with the spurious scenarios that they feature in between of. Iron Man 2 could easily be called a comedy, but the naturalism of the comedy is seamless; you get the sense that it would be impossible to write this movie without having these vibrant characters joke and jeer.

The supporting cast is top-notch as well. Samuel L Jackson just raised Nick Fury’s bar on my Marvel meter of awesomeness. Scarlett Johanssen seems to have fit into the Black Widow role like a glove. She looks quite fetching in latex and her stunt scenes are very well choreographed. Her physicality is realistic, especially where she punches through an entire goon squad in a corridoor in front of Tony Stark’s flustered bodyguard. Comic book fans might be a bit disappointed with her American accent, but then again, Natasha Romanov IS a super-spy fluent in several different languages – it makes sense that she’s a bit more discreet in the movie. Mickey Rourke is believable as Ivan Vanko (Whiplash) and seems menacing at the best of times. Jon Favreau is delightful as Happy, Tony Stark’s happy-go-lucky bodyguard.

While the movie was great in my opinion it was not without a few issues of note. I found it interesting that Ivan Venko arrived at the race in Monaco in order to confront Iron Man yet it was a last minute change that even brought Tony out onto the track. Quite a large oversight for such a high profile movie.

Also with regards to Tony Stark’s relationship with Pepper Potts. Throughout the movie there was little to no sexual tension or overt attractions between the two. However at the very end they seemed to unnaturally pin the two together for something more serious. It seemed rushed and out of place in my opinion.

As is said with my Iron Man Review Iron Man 2 also is no perfect comic book adaptation. With that said I’ll leave the rest to imagination and you to see the movie to discover the great storyline, incredible action sequences. If you read my review on Iron Man you would notice that i thougt it had to little action, Iron Man 2 made up for all that.

As i have seen the original version of Clash of the Titans from 1981 i had not plans to watch this movie at all. As i read the reviews about it i got the feeling that i was only going to se a CGI-fest that was noway near the original, and that is what i ended up being.

Clash of the Titans will please some but not others. If you like CGI battles and don’t care about anything else, then I think this will be the movie for you. However, if you like a good story and good acting, then you might not like this. I normally like both, I love a story to grip me and I also like great action or CGI scenes but unfortunately for this movie, one outweighs the other. The story bored me so much as did the characters, it felt like the actors was bored doing their roles sometimes. However, the CGI was pretty good and the action scenes were executed well but they weren’t enough to cover the fact it had a tedious and terrible story. It’s a movie with a bad story and terrible characters, which are covered up with CGI battle scenes. If the original is anything like this, I don’t think I’d like to watch it.

If you have ever read any kind of mythology you should know that every single tale that is told comes with a story of epic preportions. By epic i do not only mean that they have good battles, by epic i do mean that the actual timeline is the epic one. Every book will tell you a tale about how humans are struggeling against countless ods ove a certain period of time, just when you are about halfway trough the story and wonder how much beating the main character can take. In this movie i did not feal that at all, i did not have any hatred towards the gods here. I did not feal any need for the humans to get their revenge quenched, not did i feel any kind of emotion towards the main character of the story because the movie only focused on the action scenes and not towards the story as a book would do. Thus, this was not epic.

I will just say it right away: This movie has a lot of flaws, the story is noway near the original one in proportion of epic tales. the pace is off, the writing is bad and most of the dialogue is sketchy at best. If you decide to watch this movie you should not expect more than a Monster Mash of Titans with great CGI, for some people that hopefully should be entertaining enough.

Jonah Hex is based of of a comic book series made by DC. Critics need to have that tattooed across their forehead before they go in and everyone needs to be reminded that just because it hits close to some current issues- it’s simply from another time, one that matches ours too well for people to think that it isn’t an intentional symbolization done by the writers. It’s one the clear examples of people taking a film the wrong way simply because it reminded them too much of themselves. And the parallel between the Confederate States and any other American that’s talked too much crap about their own country, has got to have a lot of people uncomfortable in the theater.

Jonah Hex the movie (to my knowledge) do not follow the comic bok story other then the events about his family thats seen int the intro of the film, other then that it is all new. Because of this some people lite comic book lovers go crazy, however i liked this adaption of Jonah Hex.

Johan Hex is a former Confederate officer turned bounty hunter who is called upon by President Grant to help stop arch-enemy Quentin Turnbull (played by John Malkovich) from building a super weapon. Through voice-overs, and a uniquely styled cartoon segment, we find out how Hex received his distinctive facial scarring and why he is a bounty hunter. Stylistically, the film excels. The costumes and scenes are fitting and believable. The non-descript heavy metal music score was unexpected, but worked well in the action and fighting sequences. While over-the-top fighting sequences are expected in comic book film adaptations, Jonah Hex generally keeps them grounded and slightly less unbelievable. The special effects are consistent and realistic throughout the film. I especially liked the scene when the crow flies out of Hex’s mouth during the healing ceremony.

One of the main reasons I liked it was because of the performances of the actors. Josh Brolin gives all he’s got in an energetic performance as the title character, Jonah Hex. On the side notes, Megan Fox is also pretty good, and for once her acting is okay. Perhaps it’s just a step higher in a career that will otherwise, like it or not, last a long time. John Malkovich is a talented actor, but we can all agree that his performance as Quentin Turnbull wasn’t his best. But even the most talented movie makers and actors also go wrong once in a while, and while his performance wasn’t that bad, it wasn’t typical John Malkovich. Micheal Fassbender is probably the worst, and his acting was much better in last year’s Inglourious Basterds. On another note, the early moments of the film shown in ”comic” remind a lot of what Quentin Tarantino had done in Kill Bill, and were definitely a plus for me.

The action is spectacular although there were too many scenes that were in the dark and it was hard to see who was doing what to who. No matter. We knew Jonah Hex would come out on top most of the time. Some scenes may have been cut out when Jonah was almost left for dead and the Indians, again, treated his wounds. That lasted about 2-minutes and the next thing I saw was Jonah on a horse going to where Turnbull was. Talk about a fast healer.

As with most comic book turned film movies I can only guess that we will see a sequel or two coming.
